“Reach the prime point of my life” - Superbon seeks legacy defining victory over young Muay Thai champ Tawanchai
Winning a championship belt may be a career-defining achievement for any other fighter, but it simply isn't enough to sate a certain newly-elevated undisputed ONE featherweight world kickboxing champion. Multi-title hopeful Superbon is slated to face current Muay Thai title holder and fellow Thai fighter Tawanchai for a chance to claim Muay Thai gold.
With aspirations to become a dual-sport champion, Superbon sees triumphing over Tawanchai as a critical step towards cementing his legacy. In an exclusive interview with ONE Championship, the veteran striker has no hesitations in declaring his ambitions:
"Tawanchai is holding a belt, and I'd take down anyone who's in first place, reign on the top, and reach the prime point of my life."
Their inevitable encounter on the big stage marks Superbon's second attempt to win the coveted title from the younger fighter, with the first unfortunately ending in a unanimous decision against him after an intense five-round exchange of strikes.
"I have learned a few things" - Superbon says he's now prepared for Tawanchai's deceptively fast kicks
Superbon has carefully analyzed his first fight with Tawanchai, identifying a few key areas that led to his downfall.
"I have learned a few things. The first was that I didn't expect Tawanchai would be able to kick that fast. That's what I missed. The other thing is the combination. For example, approaching Tawanchai to attack him actually allows him to strike me better in the first fight."
The tension is at an all-time high as both strikers prepare for the day of reckoning. For Superbon, it's not just about winning a title - it's about carving his name in the history of the sport and fulfilling his dream of becoming a dual-sport champion.
Tawanchai and Superbon will meet again in the main event card of January 24th's ONE 170, which will take place in the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
