Redemption-seeking Jonathan Haggerty vows to give it his all vs. Superlek at ONE 168: “Let’s get ready to rumble”
Jonathan Haggerty has his sights set on redemption.
In a matter of hours, the two-sport king will put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai title on the line at ONE 168: Denver when he meets 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kitamoo9 in one of the biggest main events of 2024.
Their clash in The Mile High City will come six years removed from their first meeting under the Yokkao banner in 2018. There, Superlek came out on top via a second-round doctor's stoppage TKO. Haggerty has been chomping at the bit to run it back ever since.
He'll finally get the chance on September 6.
Haggerty told Sky Sports:
"Revenge has been in my mind for the whole fight camp, or shall I say up from the first fight really in 2018. Now we're both at the best organization in the world, so yeah, let's get ready to rumble."
Jonathan Haggerty goes into his long-awaited rematch with Superlek sitting on a six-fight win streak, including a trio of highlight-reel knockouts against Nong-O Hama, Fabricio Andrade, and most recently, Felipe Lobo.
Will Superlek score a second win over Jonathan Haggerty at ONE 168: Denver?
While Jonathan Haggerty has been running amok in the bantamweight division, Superlek has been establishing a pretty big footprint at flyweight.
Last year, 'The Kicking Machine' claimed the ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship with a dominant performance against Daniel Puertas at ONE Fight Night 6. It was one of five wins for Superlek in 2023—a run that was capped off by a Fight of the Year against Rodtang Jitmuangnon at ONE Friday Fights 34 in Bangkok.
Superlek bested 'The Iron Man' in their catchweight clash, further establishing himself as one of the pound-for-pound best strikers in the world.
Adding wins over Japanese kickboxing icon Takeru Segawa and Thai prospect Kongthoranee Sor Sommai, 'The Kicking Machine' is primed to go two-up on 'The General' and claim his second ONE world title on Friday night.
Who leaves The Centennial State with 26 pounds of gold and a truckload of bragging rights?
ONE 168: Denver will air live on Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime in both the United States and Canada on Friday, September 6. Follow this link for tickets to attend the event live at Ball Arena.
