Renato Moicano wants to see Tony Ferguson at UFC 287
After he was seemingly passed up for a role on The Ultimate Fighter, Tony Ferguson has been singled out by lightweight veteran Renato Moicano.
Previously rumors suggested that Conor McGregor would coach the upcoming TUF season with 'El Cucuy' as his opponent. Today, Michael Chandler was revealed as the mystery opponent set to compete against the Irishman.
The Brazilian called for a clash against Ferguson in Miami, Florida, which could see the lightweights lock horns at the forthcoming UFC 287 on April 8.
As Tony Ferguson was passed over for a spot on TUF, Moicano took full advantage of the news and called for his dream matchup against the former interim lightweight champion:
"Since [Michael] Chandler is scheduled to be [a] coach in TUF, not Ferguson… I’m reconsidering my political views of [the] death penalty… Hey Tony Ferguson, are you ready to rumble in Miami!?"
Last time out, Renato Moicano managed to boost his stock significantly - an impressive first-round submission victory over the tough Brad Riddell. After securing the win, the South American took to the mic to deliver a brilliant speech and capture the attention of the MMA world.
If Ferguson is unable to get his hand raised should this bout come to fruition, it will be the fan-favorite's sixth straight defeat inside the octagon. The 38-year-old has struggled in what would seemingly be the twilight of his career. Perhaps Father Time has caught up, surprisingly, to 'EL Cucuy'.
Alongside the rumored Tony Ferguson vs. Renato Moicano, who else is competing at UFC 287?
UFC 287 was recently announced by Dana White and is already home to some huge matchups, including a returning welterweight star in a colossal grudge match.
In the co-main event, returning to the octagon on home soil in the city of Miami, Jorge Masvidal will attempt to get his career back on track. 'Street Jesus' will be welcomed into the cage by the evergreen 'Durinho' in a potential title eliminator showdown.
A middleweight championship clash for the ages will headline this card. Champion Alex Pereira will face the uber-popular Israel Adesanya in a blockbuster brawl.
