Report: Dismal PPV buys of PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants despite featuring Francis Ngannou disclosed

It appears as though PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants wasn't a massive success in terms of pay-per-view buys. The event took place in Saudi Arabia last Saturday and was headlined by Francis Ngannou's promotional debut.

Ngannou's MMA return was a success in terms of preliminary metrics released by the promotion, but the pay-per-view buy rate was not among them. The main card had plenty of name recognition in addition to 'The Predator' and featured three title fights and a clash between Bellator lightweight contenders A.J. McKee and Paul Hughes.

The Battle of the Giants pay-per-view was widely available through ESPN+ and DAZN regardless of device, so the product was accessible for fans. Jed I. Goodman posted a report from Wrestling Observer (WON) on X that showed the promotion didn't hit a home run from a domestic pay-per-view perspective despite the interest on social media and was significantly lower than some of the reported UFC pay-per-view buyrates this year:

"Per WON on the #PFLSuperFights #BattleoftheGiants PPV buys: The reports we got were that buys were just over 10k on ESPN+. They had no television PPV but also were on DAZN and ESPN+. Would just be the domestic number."

How much did PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants cost on pay-per-view?

PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants was much cheaper than what their counterparts at the UFC charge on pay-per-view.

The event, which was headlined by Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira, varied in price point but was consistent for each market. Fans in Canada and the United States shelled out $49.99, while fans in markets like the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia paid $19.99 in their respective currencies.

Based on the disclosed pay-per-view buys and reported prices, it should be something that the promotion takes into consideration for their next Super Fights pay-per-view offering as they can now find what worked and what didn't and make necessary adjustments to improve.
