‘Reug Reug’ credits uncle for helping his family after death of father: “He taught me everything”
Senegalese wrestling champion and top ONE Championship heavyweight MMA contender Oumar 'Reug Reug' Kane believes all his life experiences have led to this very moment in his career as a professional fighter.
'Reug Reug' grew up in poverty on the rough and tumble streets of Thiaroye Sur Mer, Senegal, and after the untimely death of his father when he was a young boy, a family member stepped up to take care of him.
Kane gives full credit to his uncle for guiding him through his youth, and for giving him the opportunity to be where he's at in his life today.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Kane talked about his uncle and expressed his gratitude.
The 32-year-old said:
"My dad died when I was still young. After that, my uncle has taken care of us ever since."
Kane continued:
"Yes. My uncle is very, very nice. He taught me everything. Before, when I had nothing, he would give me money, take care of me, my mom, my brother, and my little sister. He’s a good uncle."
Today, Kane is one of the most exciting heavyweight MMA fighters in the world's largest martial arts organization. Next week, he gets the chance to become one of the promotion's world champions, but it won't be easy.
