Ryan Garcia's year-end fight in serious jeopardy after Oscar De La Hoya's latest statement
Ryan Garcia's next in-ring appearance might not take place following Oscar De La Hoya's recent remarks. De La Hoya highlighted that his Golden Boy Promotions has the sole right to Garcia's fights, and the promotion has not yet issued an approval or sign-off, which makes it extremely difficult for the contest to go forward as scheduled.
Following his suspension from professional boxing, Garcia was scheduled to face Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo in an exhibition bout in Japan on Dec. 30. The two even held a press conference last month ahead of their fight, during which the American thanked Fanmio and the Japanese MMA organization RIZIN for making this event possible.
However, De La Hoya, who is the promoter of Garcia, took to X and said that the Garcia vs. Anpo bout would not take place because the event's organizers had not received permission from Golden Boy Promotions, writing:
''Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights. The organizers of this event have acknowledged as such and have agreed in writing that our sign-off is needed for this event to occur. As no such sign-off has been given, as of today there is no event with Ryan Garcia.''
Garcia has come under much scrutiny from Devin Haney and his father. Devin sued the boxing star in September, alleging fraud and breach of contract after the latter tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance ostarine in their April bout.
In response, De La Hoya posted on Instagram, calling Haney's complaint pointless and claiming that it is illogical for the 25-year-old to file a case after losing.
''Enough is enough! Every fighter who has worked with Golden Boy has always been paid exactly what they are owed and given all the documents they were entitled to. Period! Any suggestion to the contrary is simply false. If the Haneys are still having trouble understanding their contract, we will be happy to walk them through it, again."
Ryan Garcia discusses his rematch with Devin Haney
Ryan Garcia was handed a one-year suspension after testing positive for ostarine in his fight with Devin Haney.
During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Garcia stated that Haney's lawsuit against him has made their rivalry personal, and he would crush 'The Dream' in their potential rematch.
''It's a little bit personal now, [Haney] sued me... I think the rematch would be huge, they think that I cheated... If they feel that way, let's run it again and I'm gonna do him worse. I didn't even train for the fight... I kinda was just crashing out, but now I'm focused and I'm gonna whoop him even worse this time.''
