Saudi Arabia's Turki Alalshikh has something in mind for Jaron Ennis, gives two-word reaction to Oscar De La Hoya's snub

Jaron Ennis' latest dominant victory has seemingly drawn contrasting reactions from His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and Oscar De La Hoya. The reigning IBF welterweight (147-pound) champion, Ennis successfully defended his title with a one-sided fifth-round stoppage victory against Russia's David Avanesyan.

The fight transpired in Ennis' native, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, earlier tonight (July 13, 2024). It helped 'Boots' take his professional boxing record to 32 wins, 0 losses, and 1 NC (No Contest). After his incredible win over the durable Avanesyan, Ennis suggested that he'd like to fight undefeated boxing legend and pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford next.

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia's GEA (General Entertainment Authority), tweeted that he'd congratulated Ennis and the latter's promoter Eddie Hearn on the victory. Alalshikh further indicated that he'd like a fight between Crawford and Ennis in the super welterweight/junior middleweight (154-pound) division. His tweet read as follows:

"I just reached out to boxer Jaron Ennis and Eddie Hearn to congratulate him on his win and I'd love to see Ennis in fight with Crawford at weight 154 soon"

Meanwhile, boxer-turned-boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya also took to X and was seemingly unimpressed by 'Boots.' The Golden Boy Promotions head honcho indicated that Crawford and Vergil Ortiz Jr. would dominantly defeat Ennis. He tweeted:

"Please. @terencecrawford and @VergilOrtiz will destroy Boots haha"

Alalshikh responded to De La Hoya's apparent snub of Ennis with the following two-word tweet:

Terence Crawford eyes undisputed status at super welterweight, while Jaron Ennis eyes welterweight glory

Terence Crawford is a former undisputed welterweight champion. 'Bud' has held titles at lightweight, super lightweight, and welterweight over the course of his career.

The 36-year-old is moving up to the super welterweight division next and is expected to face WBA super welterweight champion Israil Madrimov this August. Crawford aims to become the undisputed champion at super welterweight.

Moreover, Terence Crawford jibed at Jaron Ennis after his win over David Avanesyan, a fighter they've both beaten. Furthermore, Ennis' promoter Eddie Hearn has addressed his fighter's potential clash against Crawford.

During the post-fight press conference, Hearn implied that His Excellency Turki Alalshikh is interested in making that boxing matchup materialize. Hearn has, however, alluded that the welterweight objectives take precedence for 'Boots' before he could move up to super welterweight to face longtime rival Crawford.

Moreover, the belief is that 'Bud' could end up fighting boxing megastar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in late 2024 or early 2025. Considering the variables at play, the potential Terence Crawford-Jaron Ennis matchup might be delayed.
