Sean O'Malley makes fun of confusion surrounding UFC 280 backup fighter situation involving Alexander Volkanovski and Beneil Dariush
Sean O'Malley is known to be a troll in the MMA world. 'Sugar' has often posted memes and tweets poking fun at certain events and fighters, and generally approaches things in a light-hearted manner.
One such example is the fact that he still regards himself as undefeated, despite being finished by Marlon Vera in 2020. O'Malley disregarded the defeat to 'Chito' due to the nature of his loss, as his leg gave way due to temporary nerve damage caused by a leg kick.
Most recently, 'Sugar' poked fun at the confusion surrounding who will be the emergency replacement fighter for the UFC 280 main event between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira.
Lightweight contender Beneil Dariush, who is also fighting at UFC 280, claimed that he was told he would be the replacement fighter for the championship headliner. However, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has been calling for the position ever since his victory over Max Holloway at UFC 276. 'The Great' recently appeared to announce that he will be the official backup fighter.
Sean O'Malley has now taken a humorous approach to the confusion surrounding the situation by tweeting:
"UFC just informed me I will be the backup fighter for main event and co main"

Sean O'Malley feels positive about being the underdog against Petr Yan
Sean O'Malley is not used to being called an underdog. As such a captivating fighter who is highly skilled, 'Sugar' often finds himself the betting favorite going into a fight.
However, heading into the biggest fight of his career against Petr Yan, O'Malley is an underdog. Despite that, the label has not deterred 'Sugar' in the slightest. He remainds confident as ever about his chances of defeating 'No Mercy'.
O'Malley was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports ahead of his fight at UFC 280, and was asked how he felt about being a 3-1 underdog. He said:
"Yeah 3-1, sounds like some die-hard 'Sugar' fans could really make some serious cheddar. I know a lot of people always bet on me, and it's always kind of hard to make good money on me. I'm always a pretty big favorite."

Sean O'Malley could be in line to face the winner of Aljamain Sterling and T.J. Dillashaw's title fight, which is also set for the stacked UFC 280 card, should he defeat Yan.
O'Malley's star power, combined with defeating the No.1-ranked bantamweight in the world, could mean a title shot for 'Sugar'.
