Sean O'Malley drops significant update on next fight date and opponent in response to Petr Yan's "due date" taunt
Sean O'Malley last entered the octagon in September as he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306, losing the bantamweight title. While he had torn labrum surgery after the bout, he has shared that he could be ready to make his return to the octagon in March.
'Suga' recently responded to a call-out from Petr Yan, who called him out on Tuesday. 'No Mercy' initially suggested O'Malley was pregnant during an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, and later doubled down on X, posting:
"When is your due date? @SugaSeanMMA"
O'Malley responded by sharing that he expects to rematch Dvalishvili in the early portion of the second quarter of 2025. He said:
"I predict it will be early Q2. Against Merab. Thanks for asking."

O'Malley and Yan previously shared the octagon at UFC 280 in October 2022, with the former winning a controversial split decision. 'Suga' had previously expressed an interest in rematching Dvalishvili when the UFC returns to Miami in 2025.
'No Mercy' and Umar Nurmagomedov have also called for the first opportunity to challenge 'The Machine' for the bantamweight title. While the champion has shared that he wants to rematch O'Malley, UFC CEO Dana White has suggested that 'Young Eagle' is next.
What did Petr Yan say about Sean O'Malley being pregnant?
Petr Yan recently appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he revealed his interest in a rematch with Sean O'Malley. The No.3-ranked bantamweight was asked which opponent he wants to face, provided that he does not fight for the title in his next trip to the octagon.
Speaking to host Ariel Helwani, 'No Mercy' stated, via a translator:
"I would lean towards a rematch with Sean O'Malley, but I don't know what's going on with him. He's out for nine to 12 months so maybe he got pregnant... I really want five rounds, too. I believe it should be a good main event or featured bout on some big event. So, I think five rounds and it will be very interesting if it's going to happen."

Yan believes he was robbed in his split decision loss to O'Malley at UFC 280. While both are hoping to fight for the bantamweight title next, if Merab Dvalishvili winds up facing Umar Nurmagomedov, the stage could be set for the pair to rematch.
