Sean O'Malley's coach acknowledges Aljamain Sterling as 'most dangerous' bantamweight ahead of title fight at UFC 292
Sean O'Malley is set for his first UFC title shot later this year, when the bantamweight star will take on Aljamain Sterling in the main event of UFC 292.
Sterling defeated Henry Cejudo at UFC 288 several weeks ago to retain his title and become the first bantamweight champion to defend the title three times in modern MMA history. O'Malley entered the octagon following Sterling's win, where things almost escalated into a physical altercation.
Sean O'Malley's coach, Tim Welch, recently previewed the UFC 292 main event whilst speaking to ESPN MMA. Welch was highly complimentary of Aljamain Sterling's skillset, and said this:
"Stylistically this is the most dangerous bantamweight champion there's ever been. I really think that. He's so athletic, he's long and he's strong, and he's not just a good wrestler, he's a good wrestler with jiu-jitsu. And he's very funky, he's funky, he switches stance and throws spazzy things. He's good at chaining his wrestling together. He's the most dangerous bantamweight there's ever been."

The UFC 292 card will see two title fights taking place, with Aljamain Sterling vs. Sean O'Malley and Zhang Weili vs. Amanda Lemos.
O'Malley will be itching to return to the octagon, having last fought in October 2022 against Petr Yan at UFC 280. Whilst Sterling may be less eager for the upcoming matchup in August. The 'Funk Master' struggles more than most to make the 135 pound bantamweight limit. He certainly won't be excited by the idea of back-to-back weight cuts in such a short space of time.
Sean O'Malley discusses Aljamain Sterling not wanting to fight in August
Sean O'Malley and Aljamain Sterling will go head-to-head for the bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 292 in August. However, it appears that the 'Funk Master' is not overly pleased with the date of their fight.
O'Malley recently reacted to the announcement of his fight against Sterling, and 'Sugar' stated that regardless of who he faces at UFC 292, he will be ready. According to Sean O'Malley, Sterling wanted their bout to be scheduled for September.
During episode #108 of the BrOMalley Show, 'Sugar' said this:
"I'm showing up August 19th, whether [Sterling] shows up or they put someone else in there. Daddy's main eventing, headlining for the belt regardless, whether it's [Sterling] or not"
