Sean Strickland questions public "love and compassion" for homeless folks: "These people are drugged out zombies"
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has managed to stir up controversy once more with his political remarks. This time, for his harsh opinions about America's homeless population.
Strickland is one of the UFC's most divisive personalities and his X account frequently overflows with controversial opinions about current events and political trends.
This time, the 33-year-old found himself in hot water when he voiced his opinions about the national homelessness epidemic, which is particularly severe in large areas like New York City and Los Angeles. 'Tarzan' asserted that he does not understand the empathy that some people have for the homeless.
Strickland recently took to X and alluded to the highly contentious issues surrounding substance abuse when he referred to them as "drug zombies," writing:
''I just don't understand the love and compassion for homeless people. These people are drugged out zombies.. They're not down on there luck trying to get better, they're drug zombies. They bring drugs and crime around your children. Yall need to man up and sack up.''
Helen Yee, a popular journalist, hit back at Strickland as she discussed her personal encounters with homeless people, writing:
''Not necessarily true for all of them. When I volunteered at the homeless shelter, I got to hear their stories and you’d feel sad for how some people end up the way they do.''
Sean Strickland responded by pointing out the distinction between a drug addict and a homeless guy seeking employment. He wrote:
''There is a difference between the guy at a shelter looking for a job and a guy doing the crack zombie walk past a park... big difference..''
As for the MMA scene, Strickland has been vocal about his desire for a title opportunity since losing his middleweight belt to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297 in January. In his last octagon outing at UFC 302, the former champion defeated Paulo Costa via split decision.
Sean Strickland claims to have zero tolerance for homeless people in his area
Sean Strickland is known for his candid opinions on topics such as immigration, gender identity, and current global challenges. In a recent series of tweets, 'Tarzan' expressed his thoughts on his dislike of homeless individuals sleeping near his home.
''I have a zero tolerance for homeless people in my neighborhood.. I'll burn down a tent, fight a b*m idc....But there is a homeless guy here who is black..I just don't know if I feel right saying "we don't want you here" why can't he be a white b*m :/''
