Sean Strickland's coach Eric Nicksick details terrifying ordeal with a malfunctioning elevator
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland's coach Eric Nicksick recently opened up about a horrifying incident many years ago. Nicksick narrated the story of the elevator incident that occurred at a fighter hotel in Cleveland.
In a recent episode of the Verse Us with Eric Nicksick podcast, Nicksick revealed that he was at the fighters' hotel in Cleveland for UFC 203, along with Ali Abdelaziz, Brad Tavares, Urijah Faber, Dan Ige, Ray Sefo, Maki Pitolo, Yancy Medeiros, and some other fighters, where they were involved in an elevator crash.
He said:
''So all week long there were three elevators, only always two were working, one was always out of service. So we get done with weigh-ins, we're all coming back you know how just everybody floods the the hotel. They all get in the elevator and I look at Maki because Maki was with Yancy. Yancy was there too, so I looked at Maki and I was like hey let's run up these these stairs and we'll catch the elevator on the second or third floor.''
He added:
''So I'm in the elevator Maki is now like falling out of the elevator but the elevator now is starting to move but the doors were open. So all of a sudden, I see the concrete and I don't think Maki realized what was going on and then I look at the guys...then the door stays open, the concrete comes like this and we go up to like the third floor and then we just go drop and you see the concrete,' voom-voom-boom', we hit the bottom.''
