Security forced to step in after Anthony Joshua threatens to "smash a chair" across Daniel Dubois' face during explosive face-to-face sit down
Things reportedly got heated between boxing heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois during their recent face-to-face sit down interview. Journalist Charlie Parsons [h/t Michael Benson] reported matchmaker Eddie Hearn's account of the altercation.
Hearn recounted the incident saying that towards the end of the interview, Joshua asked his upcoming opponent to wait for September 21 for them to get their hands on each other.
Dubois responded by saying that he was ready for a showdown at that very moment. This statement reportedly did not go down well with 'AJ', who then attempted to attack Dubois and the two fighters had to be separated by security officials.
"It was at the end when they said, 'September 21st and not before,' and Daniel said, 'Well, if you want to go now, I'll go now.' AJ said, 'Do you want me to smash this chair across your face? Don't ever disrespect me like that again.' And he went for him. They had to be pulled apart," Hearn revealed.
Joshua and Dubois are set to go toe-to-toe in a heavyweight clash on September 21. The event will be held at the Wembley Stadium in London, England.
The bout was originally scheduled to be for the interim IBF belt but undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk vacated the IBF championship. This resulted in the Joshua vs. Dubois fight being upgraded and now the winner will be a full-time IBF champion.
Eddie Hearn speaks about the possibility of Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn wants to make Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury a reality but believes that the possibility of the fight coming to fruition will depend on 'The Gypsy King'.
In an interview with iFL TV, Hearn stated that even if Fury loses the second encounter against Oleksandr Usyk, which is expected to happen in December 2024, he could still fight 'AJ' in what could be a 'massive' event:
"It will be up to Tyson Fury... I'm just telling you what I would like to happen, when I've had discusssions with [Turki Alalshikh], 'AJ' is gonna fight in September. If he wins that, obviously, he's gonna want to fight the winner of Usyk-Fury 2. Win or lose, for Fury, 'AJ' can still fight Fury in a massive fight. But a lot of it it's going to be down to Tyson."
