Shakur Stevenson believes Gervonta Davis gets more praise than him for one specific reason

There are few boxers more promising than Shakur Stevenson across any of boxing's divisions right now. The 27-year-old has amassed a 22-0 record since his professional debut in 2017 and is the current WBC lightweight world champion.

However, Stevenson is often referred to as a "boring fighter" by fans, who view his surgical style as too defensive. Comparatively, the WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis, is lauded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

However, Stevenson believes that Davis' fighting style affects fans' perceptions of the pair.

'Tank' is currently 30-0 with 28 knockouts, whereas the WBC lightweight champion holds only 10 knockouts in his 22-fight career. During a recent interview with Cigar Talk, the talented pugilist explained why he believes that fans hold Davis in a higher regard than him.

He said this:

"People are blessed with different abilities. [Davis] is blessed with a God-given ability that if he cracks you, nine times out of ten you're gonna go down. That's his ability. I'm blessed with God-given eyes. My eyes are amazing. A lot of people don't understand how good my eyes are. I can see really well, [if] punches [are] coming my way I know how to get away from them at any given time."

Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis are uncomparable, says Timothy Bradley

Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis have understandably been compared for much of their respective boxing careers. Having grown up in the same age group and the same weight class, the pair are currently two of the hottest prospects in the sport.

However, many have labeled Stevenson a boring fighter, particularly in comparison to 'Tank,' who is known for his show-stopping power.

The suggestions were most recently brought up after Stevenson's win over Artem Harutyunyan on 6 June. Fans were quick to point out the difference between his win and Frank Martin's performance against Harutyunyan, the fight before 'Ghost' lost to Davis.

Former world champion Timothy Bradley recently shared his thoughts on the pair of lightweight stars, saying this:

"You cannot compare Shakur and 'Tank', you can't compare the two. They're two different styles, and styles make fights. So whatever [Frank Martin] did to this guy [Artem Harutyunyan], is gonna be different to what Shakur does... This guy couldn't do anything to [Shakur]."
