Shakur Stevenson discusses talks with Gervonta Davis’ team amid rumors they will fight in November: “That fight is going to happen”

Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis were reportedly in agreement to clash for the unified lightweight world title in November. However, shortly after those reports were released both fighters dispelled them as being inaccurate.

But Stevenson remains optimistic about scheduling a clash with the WBA lightweight champion, although he isn't sure if it will take place in 2024. Both pugilists are regarded as top talents in the boxing world, and hold undefeated records of 22-0 and 30-0, respectively.

During a recent interview with Boxing News, the WBC lightweight champion shed light on discussions with Davis' team about a potential lightweight title unification bout. He said:

"They wanted to make the fight, we just told them to send an offer, we haven't heard anything back yet. Like I said, that fight is going to happen. I'm not going to act like the fight is not going to happen. Me and [Davis] are the best fighters coming up. The best fighters in 135 pound division, there's no way the fight doesn't happen... I'm not scared to fight him, he's not scared to fight me. It's going to be a hell of a fight when it happens."

He said:

"Making this decision to come up and fight this guy just proves to me how crazy he is. I think that the crazy guys are usually the greatest people in the world. I think you need that crazy aspect." [0:35-0:57 in Shakur Stevenson's aforementioned interview]

The WBC lightweight champion was also asked for his thoughts on 'Bud' potentially facing Canelo Alvarez in the future, a fight that Crawford has called for. He said:

"I think he'll beat Canelo. Canelo is a hell of a fighter, he's bigger, I think 'Bud' is just a better boxer. A lot of people are gonna respect his boxing abilities if he can show it in front of a Canelo Alvarez. I honestly think he beats Canelo." [4:10-4:30 in Stevenson's aforementioned interview]
