“She always gets me hyped” - Jackie Buntan says listening to Beyonce gets her pumped up for her fights
Jackie Buntan is a fan of superstar Beyonce - so much so that the Filipino-American fighter is considering walking out to one of the musical icon's songs in her scheduled title match next month. The 27-year-old Boxing Works standout spoke to Sportskeeda MMA ahead of her clash with Anissa Meksen for the inaugural women's strawweight kickboxing world title at ONE 169: Malykhin vs Reug Reug on Nov. 8 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Buntan shared that Beyonce's songs never fail to get her pumped up for competition, which is why she is considering walking out to a Beyonce track in her next outing. She said:
"I haven't picked the exact song, but it's probably going to be something from Queen B, Ms. Beyonce. I love Beyonce, she always get me hyped, probably Beyonce."
Jackie Buntan will make another go at a world title at ONE 169 after falling short in her bid for the inaugural strawweight Muay Thai world title in April 2022, losing to Sweden's Smilla Sundell by decision. The match against Meksen is her first under kickboxing rules in ONE Championship.
ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug will be available live and for free at U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Jackie Buntan confident of kickboxing skills ahead of debut
Jackie Buntan is confident that she has prepared well for her kickboxing debut and is looking forward to showcasing the results of her work in her title clash against Anissa Meksen at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug on Nov. 8 in Thailand.
The Califonia-based fighter shared that after a slow start in her preparation, she has picked things up and is now ready to put her best foot forward come fight night.
She told Sportskeeda MMA:
"At first, it took a bit but I found my groove with it. You're gonna see my actual style. I think I'm a very adaptable fighter if I have to change things on the fly."
Jackie Buntan opened her ONE campaign with seven Muay Thai matches, going 6-1. Surely, she will hope to have the same success in the kickboxing realm as well. Meanwhile, out to frustrate her is veteran kickboxer Meksen, 36, who like Buntan, is making another bid for a world title after losing to Thai sensation Phetjeeja by decision last December for the interim atomweight kickboxing world title.
