"She hasn't fought anybody like me" - Jackie Buntan confident her style will spell danger for Anissa Meksen
Jackie Buntan has nothing but respect for Anissa Meksen before they do battle for the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing world championship. Still, the Filipino-American star is confident the decorated striking queen hasn't faced anyone of her style.
The Boxing Works representative meets the multi-time world champion at ONE 169 inside the Lumpinee Stadium on Nov. 8. This scheduled five-round meet will mark her kickboxing debut.
Despite 'C18' being a heavy favorite in this world scrap for 26 pounds of gold, Jackie Buntan has plenty of belief in what she will bring to the table in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Muay Thai specialist told ONE Championship:
"I know I'm just as good. I know she hasn't fought anybody like me. Stylistically, we're both at the top as combat sport athletes, both females."
Indeed, as most say, styles make fights. As such, fans can expect a barnburner to unfold when the Californian trades leather with Meksen.
Buntan has plenty to trouble the French-Algerian star when they're in proximity, but she'll need to tread with caution as the former ONE atomweight kickboxing world title challenger only needs a small window of opportunity to leave the Mecca of Muay Thai with gold wrapped around her waist.
North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription can catch the entire ONE 169 card live in U.S. primetime for free on Friday, Nov. 8.
Jackie Buntan knows she needs to be at her absolute best vs Anissa Meksen
Given her opponent's decorated resume in the discipline, Jackie Buntan knows she will have it all to do to secure the strawweight kickboxing crown inside the Mecca of Muay Thai.
But having burned the midnight oil to make sure she remains prepared for every trick Meksen has up her sleeve, the Boxing Works martial artist does fancy her chances at leaving the Thai capital with the coveted strap.
In a separate interview with ONE Championship, she added:
"Any fight I take, I don't take it easy. Especially this fight. Statistically, I'm the underdog compared to her. She has so many strengths. She's been in the game for so long and I backed myself 110 percent."
