“She’s just doing it for fun” - Adrian Lee says his girlfriend has started to join him in the gym to train MMA
Adrian Lee is busy preparing for his scheduled return to action next month in the United States and has gotten added motivation while training as his girlfriend started joining him in the gym.
The teen phenom plunges back into action at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A., on Sept. 6. He is going up against ONE Championship-debuting Nico Cornejo in a lightweight MMA battle, part of the event happening at the Ball Arena in the Mile High City.
Speaking with ONE Championship in an interview, Adrian Lee shared that his girlfriend has picked up MMA for recreation and admitted that her presence has made training more enjoyable.
The Prodigy Training Center representative said:
"I introduced her to [MMA] because I think it's just good for everyone to know some self-defense. But yeah, she's just doing it for fun.
"We're close. Yeah, I mean, we do occasionally joke around. And it's fun that she's also training at the gym. So you know, it's just like friendly banter."
Although his girlfriend is present during his training, Adrian Lee asserted that he is not letting it derail his focus on what he needs to do to get a win at ONE 168.
The Cornejo fight is the second for the Singaporean-American fighter following his successful promotional debut back in June, where he defeated Australian Antonio Mammarella by submission.
ONE 168: Denver will air live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription. Tickets for the event are available for purchase on Ticketmaster.
Adrian Lee grateful for support from his girlfriend
In the same interview with ONE Championship, the teen sensation shared that his girlfriend is fully supportive of his push to realize his MMA dreams and understands the sacrifices that goes with it.
Adrian Lee said:
"I'm very grateful to have her because she's very supportive, and she understands the fight game and what it takes to get into it. She understands the balance and why sometimes I have to put more into MMA or the other way around."
With his special someone rallying behind him, Lee is looking to repay her support with more stellar performances and victories moving forward.
