Smilla Sundell breaks down her come-from-behind win over Natalia Diachkova: “I wanted to get her in the corner”

After facing some early adversity, Swedish teen phenom Smilla Sundell stormed back and secured perhaps her biggest win yet at ONE Fight Night 22. Returning to the legendary Luumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Sundell was tasked with taking out Russian knockout artist Natalia Diachkova.

That proved to be no easy task as 'The Hurricane' was handily outstruck in the opening round of their event headliner. Knowing that she needed to change up her game plan, Sundell came out with a vengeance in the second stanza, overwhelming 'Karelian Lynx' and dispatching her opponent with one second left in the round.

Looking back on the fight, Smilla Sundell walked fight fans through her come-from-behind victory on her YouTube channel.

"I wanted to get her in the corner. Knee, knee, knee," Sundell said. "Then she went into the ropes. And you see me, what, what’s going on. And then [I jumped in for the finish.] My dad even jumped over the ropes. At least he didn’t pick me up this time. My dad, he’s still celebrating. And my dad’s jumping."

Smilla Sundell still left ONE Fight Night 22 without the ONE strawweight Muay Thai title

While Smilla Sundell's win over Natalia Diachkova kept her '0' intact, moving her to 5-0 under the ONE Championship banner, she still left The Land of Smiles without her ONE strawweight Muay Thai world title.

24 hours before she was scheduled to defend the belt, Sundell was stripped of the title after failing to make weight.

Offering some insight into why she came in heavy on the scale, Sundell told the promotion:

"It was a lot of feelings. I was very sad, I worked very hard for it. But [the weight] just didn't come off. It was kind of a short fight camp, and I was very stressed throughout the whole thing."
