"Someone just need to slap him" - Manager defends Belal Muhammad against Colby Covington's racism allegations

UFC fighter Colby Covington recently went on a disturbing outburst directed at Jon Anik, after the UFC commentator empathized with Belal Muhammad for seemingly being overlooked by the UFC despite his nine-fight unbeaten streak.

Anik expressed his astonishment when Dana White confirmed that Covington is next in line for the title shot. 'Chaos' made a surprise appearance at UFC 286 in London and served as the backup fighter for the main event clash between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards.

Covington did not take those comments kindly, and went on a profanity-laced rant against Jon Anik and Belal Muhammad in a recent interview on MMA Fighting. Muhammad has been baiting Covington for quite some time now, labeling the American a coward and saying that he had turned down a chance to fight him.

He also chastised Anik for siding with Muhammad, who had allegedly accused 'Chaos' of receiving preferential treatment because of his skin color.

UFC middleweight contender Gerald Meerschaert came out in support of Belal Muhammad on Twitter and also stated that he would defend Jon Anik if Covington assaulted the latter:

"For clarity @bullyb170 is not racist and is one of the kindest, most genuine human beings I know. And @Jon_Anik I’m in SoFlo and on the Miami card. If any unsavory characters in or out of the UFC actually approach you, hit me up and I’ll take out the trash for you."

Muhammad's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has stated that the No. 4-ranked UFC welterweight does not harbor racist views and instead views everyone as equal. According to him, Colby Covington is delusional and has to be brought to his senses:

"Belal’s head coach is black and his best friend Jared Gordon is as white as they come, somebody just needs to slap Colby and wake him up from the delusion he lives in."

Following Leon Edwards' first title defense at UFC 286 last weekend, UFC president Dana White revealed that Covington is next in line to challenge 'Rocky'. Edwards and Muhammad believe that Colby Covington's inactivity disqualifies him from the next title opportunity. However, Henry Cejudo holds a differing opinion.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cejudo stated:

"No, I think Colby's earned it through his fight game, through the fights that he's put out and through his mouth piece. And I think people need to recognize and realize that you gotta give credit where credit is due, and that's one thing Colby does better than the majority of the people. He is a good heel whether you hate him."
