Sports doctor talks Conor McGregor's toe injury, says Irishman was "justified" in withdrawing from UFC 303

A sports doctor recently shared his opinion on Conor McGregor's toe injury, which prevented him from competing at UFC 303. The individual stated that McGregor made the right decision by choosing not to fight at the seventh pay-per-view event of the year.

The person in question is Dr. Brian Sutterer, a medical expert with over 800k subscribers on his YouTube channel who recently spoke about injuries sustained by UFC fighters on The Ariel Helwani Show.

When asked about McGregor's toe injury, Sutterer claimed that even though it was minor, if McGregor had decided to compete at UFC 303, it would have negatively impacted the former two-division fighter's performance.

He said:

''Just because of the time point he [McGregor] is in his career, right? I mean, I think at a stage where his next fight is extremely important, if there is a next fight and so I can absolutely understand him not wanting to go into a fight somewhat compromised. It's a pinky toe but still, you're putting all that weight on the outside of that toe and it's going to hurt and if your foot hurts to where you can't adequately defend yourself you can't perform at a high level...I think it was justified.''

When McGregor coached The Ultimate Fighter 31 opposite Michael Chandler, it seemed as though he was getting close to making an octagon comeback, which has been suggested for well over a year. However, the Irishman's dispute with USADA and a variety of problems hampered his return.

McGregor vs. Chandler was then scheduled to be the main event of UFC 303 at the promotion's annual International Fight Week earlier this year, but the former pulled out of the fight because of a fractured toe. The fight has not been rescheduled, and 'Iron' is now set to face Charles Oliveira in a rematch at UFC 309.

Brian Kelleher wants Conor McGregor to face Max Holloway in his octagon return

Many expect Conor McGregor to make his highly anticipated octagon comeback early next year. Meanwhile, Max Holloway was unable to reclaim the featherweight title, as he suffered a third-round knockout loss against Ilia Topuria at UFC 308.

Brian Kelleher, who was recently released from the promotion, had an intriguing opinion on McGregor's comeback. According to Kelleher, the promotion should book the Irishman against Holloway for the BMF title. He took to X and wrote:

''One way to bring Conor back is him vs max for the bmf belt''
