Still not over UFC 229 brawl, Dillon Danis fires three-word derogatory message aimed at Islam Makhachev

Dillon Danis accused Islam Makhachev of a "cheap shot" during the infamous UFC 229 brawl.

In October 2018, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor competed in arguably the biggest main event in UFC history. Nurmagomedov won the historic fight by fourth-round submission, but the madness that broke out following his win has been talked about more than the sanctioned action.

Nurmagomedov jumped outside of the octagon and attacked Danis, who was in the corner of McGregor. Nurmagomedov's team joined the action, including now-UFC lightweight champion and pound-for-pound king Makhachev.

Earlier today, a fan on Twitter posted a video of Makhachev punching Danis and added the following caption:

"Remember when Islam gave @dillondanis a taste of his left"

Danis responded to the comment with a derogatory insult toward Makhachev:

"Cheap shot inbred."

The UFC 229 brawl featured the following punishments - Khabib Nurmagomedov ($500,000 fine and nine months suspended), McGregor ($50,000 and six months suspended), Abubakar Nurmagomedov ($25,000 fine and one-year suspension), and Zubaira Tukhugov ($25,000 fine and one-year suspension).

As for Danis, the Nevada State Athlete Commission fined him $7,500 and issued him a seven-month suspension. Since then, he has emerged as a well-known figure in the combat sports community, but not for positive reasons.

The polar opposite careers of Islam Makhachev and Dillon Danis since UFC 229

Islam Makhachev and Dillon Danis, who had a short-lived encounter in the infamous UFC 229 melee, have had shockingly different fighting careers.

Firstly, Makhachev held a 5-1 UFC record before escaping punishment at UFC 229. The Russian powerhouse has gone on to win ten more fights, including four for the lightweight title. Makhachev now holds the number one ranking on the UFC pound-for-pound list, making him one of the best fighters on the planet.

On January 18, 2025, Makhachev looks to extend his reign of terror against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311. Tsarukyan has an opportunity to avenge an April 2019 loss, with Makhachev defeating him by unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Danis held a 1-0 Bellator record before UFC 299. He fought once more in the promotion, another first-round submission, before never fighting in MMA again. The 31-year-old has garnered a massive social media following, largely due to the buildup of his boxing match against Logan Paul, which he lost.
