Superbon breaks down his fight-ending elbow shot that stopped Jo Nattawut in less than a round
First-ranked featherweight Muay Thai contender and ONE interim featherweight kickboxing world champion Superbon of Thailand put together one of the most explosive performances of his career when he met No.2-ranked contender 'Smokin' Jo Nattawut last weekend in Bangkok.
The two Thai stars met in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 81, which took place on Sept. 27 in front of a packed Lumpinee Stadium crowd in the nation's capital.
Superbon needed just a little over a minute into the fight to author the shocking end sequence. A single, well-placed counter elbow was all it took for Superbon to separate Nattawut from his senses.
Speaking to the media at the official ONE Friday Fights 81 post-event interviews, Superbon shared his thoughts on the finish.
The 34-year-old said:
"At first when I see him cut, I think made me sure that [it would] work. So I still kept going. Because, like, when he threw his hand, you throw the left or the right so I throw the elbow. So it's gonna be a different elbow. The first time, if you can see him throw the right hand, I threw the left elbow, so he can't cut. But the second time you saw the left hand, so I threw the right elbow. So that depends when it's going down."
It appears Superbon may have timed the elbow to perfection, hence taking out an otherwise extremely tough Jo Nattawut in one fell swoop.
What's next for Superbon in ONE Championship?
The 34-year-old interim featherweight kickboxing king Superbon is looking to unify the gold and wants to draw Chingiz Allazov out of hiding.
Allazov has not fought since his August 2023 decision victory over Marat Grigorian. Superbon lost to Allazov via knockout in their January 2023 showdown, and the Thai star wants nothing more than to get that one back.
Allazov has expressed his desire to retire from the sport altogether, however, leaving the Superbon rematch in limbo.
