Superlek assures fans he will be at his best despite "tricky" situation with Kongthoranee and Jonathan Haggerty
Thai superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9 admits that it is going to be a huge challenge to be fighting in two matches in the next four months, particularly in making weight. However, he's vowing to manage.
'The Kicking Machine', who is the reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing champion, will see action on June 28 at ONE Friday Fights 68 in a flyweight Muay Thai showdown against fellow Thai fighter Kongthoranee Sor Sommai. Then, on Sept. 6 in the United States, he will challenge bantamweight Muay Thai king Jonathan Haggerty for his championship belt.
In a recent interview with the South China Morning Post, Superlek spoke about the rather tricky situation he is in of juggling weight classes, but said he is confident of making the cut.
The 28-year-old Kiatmoo9 Gym standout shared:
"Well, of course, the weight would be tricky, the weight cut and the weight gain with such time difference. I think it is a bit tricky for me, because I was preparing to face Jonathan Haggerty at bantmaweight. So I was focusing on gaining the weight, and now that there is this surprise match with Kongthoranee at flyweight, I have to cut the weight down.
"So is there a plan? Of course. But I just have to keep it a secret, but I can assure you that I'm working on it and I will make it happen."
Check out what he had to say below:
Fighting on short turnaround and in different weight classes is nothing new for Superlek, who has been very active in competing in the last two years. His matches against Kongthoranee and Haggerty will be his 10th and 11th fights, respectively, since May 2022.
