Superlek believes Tawanchai is unbeatable at 155 pounds: “I don’t think there is anyone in featherweight”
'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 doesn't see anyone beating Tawanchai at featherweight.
Sitting as the reigning ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion, Tawanchai is one of the hottest acts in the art of eight limbs right now, besting his last seven opponents, including noteworthy wins against Saemapetch Fairtex, Petchmorakot, and former kickboxing king Superbon.
On Friday, June 7, he'll attempt to keep his streak alive when he puts his 26 pounds of ONE gold on the line against fellow Thai warrior 'Smokin' Jo Nattawut.
Offering his take on Tawanchai's upcoming title fight and his countryman's recent success, Superlek told the South China Morning Post that there is nobody who stands a chance of beating the current champ at 155 pounds.
"I don’t think there is anyone in featherweight," Superlek said he asked who could potentially beat Tawanchai. "It would be difficult to match his Muay Thai skills in featherweight. I think that would be difficult. He has a very strict discipline, and he also has very good training, both Muay Thai and weight training."
Jo Nattawut will attempt to prove Superlek wrong at ONE 167.
Jo Nattawut determined to dethrone Tawanchai at ONE 167
Stepping into the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium for a short-notice kickboxing clash with Tawanchai at ONE Fight Night 15, Jo Nattawut delivered an undeniably impressive performance against the streaking Thai superstar.
Though he came up short on the scorecards, Nattawut took the fight to Tawanchai throughout their three-round affair, earning himself an opportunity to challenge the champ for his ONE world title.
Nattawut goes into the bout with a solid 4-1 record in Muay Thai, besting George Mann, Samy Sana, and Luke Lessei along the way. Can 'Smokin' Jo secure the biggest win of his career and add the ONE featherweight Muay Thai championship to his mantle, or will Tawanchai extend his streak to eight straight and keep his title intact?
ONE Championship fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 167 live and for free via Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime on Friday, June 7.
