Superlek has eyes on Jonathan Haggerty's bantamweight kickboxing title: "I'd like to fight for it"
Reigning two-sport ONE world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 doesn't plan on stopping at two shiny golden straps. He wants Jonathan Haggerty's ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title next.
'The Kicking Machine' authored a flawless performance in the main event of ONE 168: Denver last Friday, needing under a minute to finish the Brit and claim his Muay Thai belt. Though many were expecting 'The General' to put up a much better fight, the Thai's weapon of destruction — his trademark elbow — connected with far too much fury.
When asked about what he wants next on his radar, the 28-year-old told Bangkok Post's Nick Atkin:
"If there's a chance. Jonathan Haggerty is the champion of [bantamweight] kickboxing, and if there's a chance now, I'd like to fight for it."
The 28-year-old's win inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, also saw him pull a 2-0 lead over the Knowlesy Academy and Team Underground affiliate, having punched his way to a TKO win over the latter in October 2018.
Based on what he has to say, Superlek is more than game to realize a rubber match against the Londoner. Of course, once he's done his duties as the reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing and bantamweight Muay Thai world champion.
Superlek pleased to showcase the 'danger' and 'excitement' of Muay Thai in Denver
Along with bagging a knockout victory and a US$50,000 performance bonus in his U.S. debut, Superlek is over the moon for being able to wow the audience in the Mile High City on September 6.
The newly crowned two-sport king told members of the media at the press conference:
"I'm extremely grateful for the chance that I have here. I want everybody, all over America and the world to see how incredible Muay Thai is, the danger, the excitement, everything about Muay Thai."
