Superlek wants “to bring the belt back to Thailand” after his Denver super fight against Jonathan Haggerty
Superlek Kiatmoo9 isn't just fighting for his own glory when he challenges two-sport king Jonathan Haggerty in Denver.
The reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion will challenge Haggerty for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title in a bid to claim a piece of ONE Championship gold that once belonged to Thailand.
Superlek's all-champion showdown against Haggerty goes down in the main event of ONE 168: Denver on September 6 at Ball Arena.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Superlek Kiatmoo9 said he's determined to bring the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title back to Thailand after Haggerty took the throne from Thai legend Nong-O Hama in 2023.
He said:
"Haggerty defeated some Thai legends like Sam-A [Gaiyanghadao] and Nong-O, but now I have the opportunity to bring the belt back to Thailand."
The British superstar is one of the best strikers of this generation, and he achieved that distinction after running through a couple of Thailand's best fighters of all time.
Haggerty first became a ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion when he beat Sam-A for the strap via unanimous decision in May 2019.
He then moved up to bantamweight and became the division's Muay Thai king when he scored a stunning knockout win over Nong-O at ONE Fight Night 9.
Haggerty then added the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title to his collection when he stopped bantamweight MMA king Fabricio Andrade at ONE Fight Night 16.
Superlek, however, is hellbent on taking Haggerty down and capturing champ-champ status for himself.
The Thai megastar is riding a 10-fight winning streak beating the likes of ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, Takeru Segawa, Panpayak Jitmuangnon, and Daniel Puertas.
Tickets for ONE 168 are available at Ticketmaster.
