Takeru Segawa wants to prove he’s the strongest in the world: “I came to ONE to fight Rodtang”
Kickboxing megastar Takeru Segawa has a point to prove in Thailand.
As one of the athletes competing in one of the biggest ONE Friday Fights card this year, he will want to produce a victory after his recent defeat in the hands of the-now two sports ONE world champion Superlek.
Ahead of this crucial fight in Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium, Takeru knows that he's putting his superstar status at stake, and he would want to secure his path by defeating Thant Zin at ONE Friday Fights 81 on September 27.
But more than that, he also aims to clash with the flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the future, so this would be a good chance to prove his worth as a Japanese legend in the promotion.
'The Natural Born Crusher' told ONE Championship about his plans at this marquee spectacle:
"There’s no next if I don’t win. That’s what I’ve always thought. I came to ONE to fight Rodtang and prove I’m the strongest in the world by beating him, so I need to win this fight to get there."
He added:
“I need to win in a way that’s worthy of that goal.”
And after such an injury that put him on the sidelines after facing Superlek at ONE 165 back in Japan, it would be interesting to see how far Takeru has recovered.
Takeru Segawa wants a KO victory at ONE Friday Fights 81
Securing a legacy is one thing, but doing it with a KO after a massive defeat is one that Takeru Segawa aims for at the expense of Thant Zin of Myanmar.
The Japanese megastar suffered multiple muscle tears in his left leg when Superlek crushed him at ONE 165, but now, he's bringing new determination and skills towards Sept. 27.
With a plan to halt his opponent's 2-0 momentum, Takeru Segawa told ONE Championship:
"He's a young fighter, so he'll have momentum. I'll be careful of that while sticking to my own fighting style. Since he's an aggressive type, I want to win by KO."
