“That is the end goal for me” - Nico Carrillo says inspiring people from Scotland the most important thing
First-ranked ONE Championship bantamweight Muay Thai contender 'King of the North' Nico Carrillo of the United Kingdom has lofty goals in the world's largest martial arts organization.
The 25-year-old Scottish sensation has grand designs on becoming ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion and one of the greatest fighters to ever live. But beyond the personal achievements lies Carrillo's deep-rooted goal.
He just wants to inspire people, especially those from his home country of Scotland.
'King of the North' told ONE Championship:
"That is what it's all about for me, inspiring people from the [United Kingdom], inspiring people from Scotland, inspiring people from where I grew up. That is the goal. That is the end goal for me, apart from all the money and the gold. It is about leaving a legacy and letting people know the way I grew up, you don't have to be a product of your own environment. You can choose another path, a path of greatness. But there's a lot of hard work and dedication that comes with it, but it's up to you if you want to do it."
Carrillo is coming off a second-round technical knockout victory at ONE Fight Night 23 on Prime Video last week, knocking down no.4-ranked Saemapetch Fairtex three times to force an abrupt halt to the contest.
'King of the North' Nico Carrillo believes ONE Championship belt is finally within reach: "I need to fight for the gold now"
'King of the North' Nico Carrillo says the time to prove he is the number one contender has lapsed following his TKO victory over Saemapetch Fairtex. The 25-year-old referred to himself as 'undeniable' for a shot at the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title.
He told South China Morning Post in a recent interview:
"I’m not gonna see another fight because it’s dangerous for me for my number one spot after defending my number one spot. I need to fight for the gold now."
