“That was all the motivation I needed” - Liam Harrison recalls when a teacher said he would never amount to anything in his life

British Muay Thai icon and former ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title challenger 'Hitman' Liam Harrison of the United Kingdom is widely considered a legend in the 'art of eight limbs' today.

But not everyone believed in him while he was just starting out, in particular, one teacher who said he would never amount to anything in life.

In an exclusive interview on MMA TV, Harrison talked about the moment one of his teachers tried to sow a seed of doubt in his mind.

'Hitman' recalled:

"I remember it like it was yesterday. What are you going to do with your life? Do you think you're going to be a pro-fighter? Because I'll tell you now that won't happen."

Harrison continued:

"That was all the motivation I needed, I guess. And yeah, like I said, I still remember it very clearly now. I can't remember what I had for dinner 20 minutes ago, but I can remember that like it was yesterday. Everything about it. So, yeah, it's clearly stuck with me, and it's clearly given me a bit of motivation and discipline to push on and prove people wrong."

Liam Harrison to make epic return at ONE 168: Denver against Seksan

'Hitman' Liam Harrison is scheduled to return to action at ONE 168: Denver against legendary Thai fighter Seksan Or Kwanmuang.

The event broadcasts live from the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado on Friday, Sept. 6.

Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action live and absolutely free on Amazon Prime Video.

Harrison wants to prove to everyone, including that former teacher, that he is still one of the best Muay Thai fighters in the world today.

He said:

"I think that's always been in the back of my mind, somewhere in that. I've never, ever let go of it. I don't even know if that teacher is still alive now, but for years, I hope he can see what I've made for myself and stuff like that. And, yeah, I would need to say thank you to him for the motivation for that. I'll never forget it."
