"That's the cool thing" - Demetrious Johnson talks about his children following him into MMA
Mixed martial arts GOAT contender and reigning and undisputed ONE flyweight MMA world champion 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson isn't pushing his children to following in his footsteps and compete in MMA.
As a father, Johnson just wants what's best for his kids, and that means allowing them to pursue their own passions, MMA or not.
Thankfully, Johnson's children have their own paths to carve, and 'Mighty Mouse' is their biggest chearleader.
Speaking on the Believe YOU ME podcast with Michael Bisping, Johnson talked about his kids and what they are doing right now.
'Mighty Mouse' said:
"My oldest son, he's going to be a pilot. He loves aviation. That's gotta allow him to travel the world and do jiu-jitsu. That's the cool thing about jiu-jitsu. He's trained in Florida, Las Vegas, and even competed in Las Vegas. He's gonna try to compete all around the world. My daughter, I don't know what she's going to do."
Regardless, Johnson throws his full support behind his children. And there's no better coach than the MMA GOAT himself.
Demetrious Johnson strives for flawlessness: "To be that perfect martial artist"
It takes a gargantuan effort to be the greatest, and a bulletproof mindset that will accept nothing short of greatness. 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson has that and more.
He told Ariel Helwani in a recent appearance on The MMA Hour:
"Even now, my coach goes, 'In your gi game, you're very weak here'. We're gonna work on that. Because somebody is going to see that and put you in that realm again. So that's how my mind works. I came home, I just won fucking gold and my coach is like, 'Your game is weak'. I'm like, I'm gonna work on it. Let's work on it. I want my judo better. I'm always striving to be that perfect martial artist, whether I'm winning or I'm losing."
