"That's what I feel when I watch you" - Demetrious Johnson shares hilarious story of fan comparing his BJJ to 'Happy Gilmore'

Demetrious Johnson is the 'Happy Gilmore' of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

That statement doesn't make much sense, but it was actually a compliment given to 'Mighty Mouse' by one of his admirers.

The ONE flyweight MMA world champion, of course, has been going all in on Gi BJJ as of late, dominating the IBJJF tournaments that he participated in.

'Mighty Mouse' even got his well-earned BJJ black belt earlier this year.

During one of his tourneys, Johnson recalled a hilarious interaction with a fan who summarized the excitement that he brings to 'The Gentle Art'.

'DJ' shared in an episode of The Mightycast, where he spoke with fellow ONE world champion Kade Ruotolo:

"Funny story. When I was at PANS, somebody goes, 'Man, I love watching you compete in the Gi. Then he goes, 'You ever watch golf? It's f***ing boring. But when I watch Happy Gilmore, I love golfing. That's what I feel when I watch you'.' It was hilarious."

For the uninitiated, Happy Gilmore is a 1996 sports comedy cult classic featuring Adam Sandler as the titular character.

The comparison between Johnson and the iconic and hotheaded movie character may seem odd at first. Then again, Happy Gilmore brought a lot of eyes to golf, which is pretty much the same thing Johnson is doing for Gi jiu-jitsu.

Demetrious Johnson professes his love for armbars

In the same interview, Demetrious Johnson told Kade Ruotolo why the armbar is his favorite submission in both MMA and grappling.

The MMA legend explained:

"I'm an armbar guy. I love armbars. It's easier to constrict somebody's arm with my whole body. But when you try to get a triangle, you get f***ing stacked. I'm an armbar guy."

Johnson, of course, can pretty much submit anyone with his wide array of techniques. However, at the end of the day, he'll always go for that arm if you leave it hanging long enough.
