"The belt will go back to where it belongs" - Olympic wrestler Brandon Escobar confident Jarred Brooks trumps Gustavo Balart in Bangkok
After sharing a recent training session with former ONE strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks, 2012 London Olympic wrestler Brandon Escobar is convinced that he will secure the win in his upcoming fight.
Escobar shared a recent photo of him with Brooks and his former teammate on Instagram as they trained together. Several parts of his lengthy caption read:
"Getting to train with two great champions yesterday, my teammate from Suffolk County @j0n_reyes and ONE World Champion @the_monkeygod was such an incredible experience and opportunity!!! ... Best of luck to Jarred on his upcoming fight, the belt will go back to where it belongs!! πͺπΌπ€ let's go!!!"
'The Monkey God' is scheduled to face another former Olympic wrestler and the current number three-rated divisional contender, Gustavo Balart, on August 2 at ONE Fight Night 24 for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title.
This recent training session with Escobar could greatly help Jarred Brooks in his fight with Balart, as it is expected to have a wrestling-heavy approach due to their similar backgrounds of being former wrestlers.
Jarred Brooks wants to snap the two-fight slide and earn unification bout with Joshua Pacio
Currently, Jarred Brooks is on a two-fight losing skid, having sustained a submission defeat against Mikey Musumeci in August 2023 at ONE Fight Night 13 and a disqualification setback opposite Joshua Pacio in their championship rematch at ONE 166: Qatar after an unintentional head spike.
This showdown with the Cuban powerhouse will be Brooks' path toward a potential trilogy match with 'The Passion' once he recovers from his ACL injury. If he gets the job done, a unification bout is expected in the near future.
ONE Fight Night 24 will air live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America on August 2 during U.S. primetime.
