“The final goal” - Jonathan Haggerty suggests he’d omit Muay Thai and kickboxing to solely focus on MMA ‘at the end’ of his career

Once Jonathan Haggerty makes the move to mixed martial arts, that will likely spell the end of his Muay Thai and kickboxing careers.

As it stands, 'The General' currently reigns as the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion, having scored highlight-reel knockouts of both Nong-O Hama and Fabricio Andrade in back-to-back bouts to claim his respective belts.

But the only thing better than two belts is three belts.

During a recent interview with Sky Sports MMA Club, Jonathan Haggerty spoke about his dream of one day becoming an MMA world champion.

However, to do that, 'The General' believes he would have to give up training in the art of eight limbs to exclusively focus on mixed martial arts.

"It’s a hard one really, because, having to train for three different sports is going to be difficult because it’ll be hard for you to be the best in one sport," Haggerty said. "So I feel like I’ll get the MMA belt, just focus on one, and at the end of my career, MMA will be the final goal for me."

Jonathan Haggerty back in action at ONE 168: Denver

Before Jonathan Haggerty makes a potential move to MMA, he'll step inside the Circle for what is already being touted as one of the biggest Muay Thai clashes of all time.

Heading to The Mile High City — Denver, Colorado — on Friday, September 6, 'The General' will put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship on the line against 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek at ONE 168.

Superlek goes into the contest already sitting as the ONE flyweight kickboxing world titleholder.

If he snaps Haggerty's six-fight win streak, he'll not only claim his second championship in as many sports, but he will almost certainly solidify himself as the No.1 pound-for-pound striker on the planet.
