"The weather is very different" - Jackie Buntan on competing halfway across the world in Thailand at ONE 169

Filipino-American striking wizard Jackie Buntan is soaking in the tropical climate of Thailand before she goes toe-to-toe with Anissa Meksen over the inaugural ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world championship. Their clash is part of ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Friday, Nov. 8, inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Speaking with Violent Money TV, Buntan said:

"I do well in that type of heat and humidity. It doesn't really faze me too much, to be honest. But the weather is very different. Out here, it's coastal. I'm by the beach, so it's like 70 degrees out right now, sunny, not dry or sticky at all. But I'm used to it."

Buntan is no stranger to Thailand's climate. Her most recent fight happened inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium this past March at ONE Fight Night 20, where she outlasted four-time ISKA Kickboxing world champion Martine Michieletto.

The 27-year-old Buntan will look to win her first ONE world championship by pulling off the upset over the decorated French-Algerian legend at ONE 169.

Jackie Buntan grateful for Janet Todd's presence in training camp

Jackie Buntan has been preparing for her upcoming world title tilt at ONE 169 with the help of the now-retired former ONE interim atomweight Muay Thai and atomweight kickboxing world champion Janet Todd.

Buntan said in an interview with ONE:

"Now it's quite inclusive to the Boxing Works team. No secret, I'm lucky to have Janet. She's still training, still able to get her out of her 'retirement' since she's in the gym most of the time still. But she's really the best partner for me right now to train for this kickboxing fight."

ONE 169 will air live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
