"Then why take Ostarine?" - Fans debate over how much help Ryan Garcia had from banned drugs in brutal beatdown of Devin Haney

Ryan Garcia's confirmed use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) surrounding his bout against Devin Haney has recently reignited intense discussion on social media. In April, 'KingRy' scored three knockdowns en route to a majority decision win over Haney, but his victory was tainted by a positive test for the banned substance ostarine.

Recently, a fan on X shared a highlight clip showcasing Garcia overpowering Haney with powerful punches, arguing that it wasn’t the PEDs that contributed to Garcia's victory but rather his superiority in every aspect of the fight.

Check out the video below:

The post sparked a heated debate within the combat sports community, with many speculating if Garcia was more skilled than 'The Dream' that night, suggesting his performance had little to do with ostarine.

One fan wrote:

"Then why take Ostarine? If PEDs don't work, then why do people take them? Garcia may not have made it through training camp if he had not doped."

Another wrote:

"Ryan Garcia molested Devin Haney that night."

Another commented:

"Garcia beat the sh*t out of Haney. I don’t care what a quarter of an ounce of bullsh*t they found in his system. It had 0 impact on the fight."

In the aftermath of the controversy, 'KingRy' received a one-year suspension after settling with the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) in June, which resulted in his victory over 'The Dream' being changed to a no-contest.

Additionally, the former WBC interim champion was required to forfeit his disclosed fight purse of approximately $1.2 million and was hit with a $10,000 fine imposed by the commission.

Why did Ryan Garcia not receive WBC super lightweight title after defeating Devin Haney?

Devin Haney was originally scheduled to defend his WBC super lightweight title against Ryan Garcia. However, despite enduring his first professional defeat, 'The Dream' was able to retain his championship, as Garcia failed to meet the required weight limit.

'KingRy' exceeded the 140-pound limit by 3.2 pounds, disqualifying him from competing for the title. Prior to the fight, both boxers had agreed to a penalty of $500,000 for every pound they went over the weight limit.

Haney confirmed that 'KingRy' honored the agreement, paying him $1.5 million for surpassing the weight limit. However, Garcia later demanded that Haney return the penalty money after the NYSAC overturned the result of their fight.
