Henry Cejudo picks who is an easier fighter for Islam Makhachev between Charles Oliveira and Alexander Volkanovski
Before the eventful fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev at UFC 280, UFC president Dana White announced that Alexander Volkanovski will face the winner of the title bout.
Islam Makhachev awaits Volkanovski for the upcoming UFC event in Australia in February. However, Henry Cejudo thinks Volkanovski will be an easier opponent for Makhachev than Oliveira was at UFC 280.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former UFC flyweight champion was asked whether Volkanovski would be an easier stylistic matchup for the Dagestani than Oliveira. Cejudo replied:
"Of course, [it's] because Charles [Oliveira] has submissions, you know. I'm sure [Alexander] Volkanovski can submit, but he hasn’t really shown that. I haven't seen a submission from him."
Given Makhachev's reputation inside the octagon, the current lightweight champion is one of the best submission specialists in the UFC right now.
Islam Makhachev recently won the lightweight championship by submitting Charles Oliveira, arguably the greatest submission artist in the history of the UFC.
Check out Henry Cejudo's comments on the upcoming Makhachev-Volkanovski fight below:
Alexander Volkanovski's height can be a difference-maker against Islam Makhachev
On his channel, Cejudo stated that Volkanovski's height could be the difference-maker in his upcoming fight.
Cejudo stated that the reigning UFC featherweight champion is at a slight disadvantage because of his short stature. However, Cejudo said that Volkanovski could also use that to his advantage:
"There's a bunch of short Dagestanis in Russia that are going to be able to mimic that [Volkanovski]. But it could also be a plus for Volkanovski, too."
Surely, the fight fans are waiting to see these two fighters lock horns inside the octagon.
Both athletes have tremendous agility and cardio. However, when it comes to grappling, Makhachev is seemingly miles ahead of the reigning featherweight champ.
Nonetheless, Volkanovski cannot be counted out on any given day. 'Volk' is currently one of the best strikers in the UFC and the reigning pound-for-pound champ. He also showed in the Brian Ortega fight that he can defend himself on the ground, which is primarily where Makhachev likes to operate.
