“There’s a different aspect to it” - Jarred Brooks says Gustavo Balart like no one he’s ever fought
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States has fought them all, but even the 31-year-old Warsaw, Indiana native says his next opponent is unlike anyone he's ever faced in the cage before.
Brooks, the no.1-ranked strawweight MMA contender, is set to face Cuba's 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title. And he believes Balart poses a different set of challenges from the ones he has grown accustomed to in his career.
Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA in an exclusive interview, Brooks talked about Balart and what makes him a worthy opponent.
'The Monkey God' said:
"Gustavo is a different opponent compared to anybody that I fought. And I mean, anybody that has fought him, can speak for that as well. So I think that’s what makes this bout so exciting is that there’s a different aspect to it but we have a lot of things in common as well."
Brooks and Balart lock horns in the main event of ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video.
The event broadcasts live from the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, August 2nd.
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action live and absolutely free on Amazon Prime Video.
Jarred Brooks says he and Gustavo Balart share similarities in their fighting style: "We go at a million miles an hour"
Mash Fight Team representative 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks believes he and upcoming opponent 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart are like-minded and very similar fighters.
The 31-year-old American MMA veteran told Sportskeeda MMA:
"We have wrestling backgrounds and we go at a million miles an hour on our opponents. So I think that’s a great counterpart to put into this production and what we’re doing and what we’re going to show in the fight."
