“There’s going to be more action on my end” - Jackie Buntan vows to push the pace to claim kickboxing crown vs Anissa Meksen
Jackie Buntan plans on pushing the pace when she meets Anissa Meksen for the ONE strawweight kickboxing world championship.
After taking some time off to hone her skills, the Boxing Works product returned to action at ONE Fight Night 20 in March and scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over Martine Micheletto. Now, Buntan will attempt to capture her first 26 pounds of ONE Championship gold when she meets 'C18' in a high-stakes scrap at ONE 169 inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
Speaking with the promotion ahead of her clash with Meksen, Buntan made it clear that she'll be looking to push the pace and deliver a fan-friendly fight against the seven-time titleholder.
“But yeah, I expect, as corny as it is, I do expect it to be a super entertaining fight with back-and-forth action. I just think there’s going to be more action on my end.”
Thus far, Buntan is 6-1 under the ONE Championship banner with her lone loss coming against former ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion Smilla Sundell.
Like Jackie Buntan, Anissa Meksen is looking to win her first ONE world title at ONE 169
Jackie Buntan will certainly have her work cut out for her when she meets one of the most decorated strikers in women's combat sports.
Already claiming a host of world titles in both kickboxing and the art of eight limbs, Anissa Meksen walks into ONE 169 with more than 100 wins to her credit and a trio of wins against Maire Ruumet, Cristina Morales, and Dangkongfah Banchamek in ONE.
Meksen previously challenged Thai sensation Phetjeeja for the interim ONE atomweight kickboxing world title at ONE Friday Fights 48 earlier this year. Unfortunately for Meksen, she came up short, but now she has a chain to claim gold in the strawweight division—but to do it, she'll have to go through one of the hardest-hitting females in the sport.
Who leaves the Mecca of Muay Thai with their hand raised and a ONE world title wrapped around their waist?
