“They're definitely studying film together” - Danielle Kelly believes Mayssa Bastos may try to take the back like teammate Jessa Khan
Reigning and undisputed ONE women's atomweight submission grappling world champion Danielle Kelly of the United States knows upcoming opponent Mayssa Bastos and former adversary Jessa Khan are teammates at Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy. And the 28-year-old star believes the two may team up to develop a game plan against her.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Kelly says she may see some similar game plans on hand for her when she takes on Bastos this weekend.
The 28-year-old said:
"I mean, that's always the goal, but I feel like she might play legs because she was doing that in her last match. But if I have to look from the outside, if her coaches are doing some studying on me, I feel like they're gonna tell her to try to take my back just as Jessa [Khan] did the first one. I don't think they're training together, though. But they're teammates, so they're definitely studying film together."
Kelly defeated Khan at ONE Fight Night 14 last September to capture the inaugural ONE women's atomweight submission grappling world title. Now, she is set to make the first defense of that belt on Friday (August 2) night.
