"They're into silenceing dissenting opinions" - When Joe Rogan accused left-wing social media of rigid censorship

Joe Rogan believes the left-wing has formed a habit of censorship. The UFC color commentator discussed the issue with philosophy professor Ben Burgis during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast earlier this year.

According to Rogan, censorship became rampant after the right-wing started using social media as a tool. The 55-year-old also noted that it certainly boomed during the Trump administration, irrespective of when it started:

"Something morphed during the time where social media became a tool of alot of right-wing people. This is actually pre-Trump, was certainly accentuated during the Trump administration."

However, some right-wing voices premised on hate speech needed to be silenced. Rogan believes that the left-wing is now so big into censorship that they are silencing even left-wing voices that are not orthodox. Joe Rogan added:

"There were a lot of these very influential right-wing people that were-- they had cheers from the fans. They have these throngs of supporters and they [the left] silenced those guys. They pulled those guys off social media and they found out that it was effective to do that. And then it became a thing they got really into. Where they're into silenceing dissenting opinions and it's gone so far that they are doing it to left-wing people that step even remotely outside the bounds of orthodoxy."

Joe Rogan discusses liberals leaving Twitter after Elon Musk's takeover

Twitter has gone through some radical changes since Elon Musk completely took over the platform last month. To begin with, Musk fired nearly 50% of the company's 7500+ workforce and almost all top executives.

Apart from this, the platform now includes a feature known as 'Community Notes' (previously called Birdwatch) to help address misleading information. Several celebrities like former wrestler Mick Foley, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, actor Alex Winter, and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes have left Twitter after Musk's takeover.

Twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That’s our mission.

According to Joe Rogan, leaving Twitter has now become popular among liberals. The UFC color commentator told his guest Suzanne Santo during a recent episode of the JRE podcast:

“It’s wild. But it’s also a thing you’re supposed to say, ‘I’m leaving Twitter because Elon Musk is evil.’ Yeah, like, having him run Twitter, I think is going to be great. I think it’s going to be very interesting.”
