“They’ve always looked after me” - Jonathan Haggerty says he’s always felt the love since starting ONE Championship career
Jonathan Haggerty's relationship with ONE Championship couldn't be any better.
Since making his promotional debut nearly six years ago, 'The General' has established himself as one of the best strikers on the planet—as evidenced by his multiple titles reigns across two different sports.
Kickstarting his run as a flyweight, Haggerty earned impressive wins against Joseph Lasir and Sam-A Gaiyanghadao. Along the way, he captured the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship and engaged in back-to-back instant classics with 'The Iron Man' Rodtang Jitmuangnon before moving up to conquer another division.
Reflecting on his time with the promotion, Haggerty was thankful for the love and support that ONE Championship has shown him over the years.
Appearing on the Sky Sports MMA Club podcast, Haggerty said:
"Yeah definitely. They’ve always looked after me, even when I wasn’t a champion. I’ve lost the belt before, remember, at flyweight. They’ve always looked after me. They’ve always given me great offers, so thankful for that. I’m pretty sure the next fight will be a great one."
Jonathan Haggerty happy to still be a ONE world champion following loss against Superlek
Currently, Jonathan Haggerty is the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion, having bested bantamweight MMA titleholder Fabricio Andrade for the vacant kickboxing belt at ONE Fight Night 16 last November.
At the time, Haggerty was also the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion, but he has been recently relieved of those duties following a devastating first-round knockout loss against Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver.
Haggerty still has every intention of reclaiming the Muay Thai title he lost, but for now, 'The General' is prepared to focus on defending his kickboxing world title. In the aforementioned podcast, he added:
"I think we can still definitely get it. I’m still a champ. I’m still the kickboxing World Champion. So I still got one belt, I know I had two, but now I have one."
Where do you think Haggerty ranks among ONE Championship's best pound-for-pound fighters?
