Dr. David Abbasi suspects a complete ACL tear for Calvin Kattar based on video of his TKO loss to Arnold Allen
The UFC Vegas 63 main-event showdown between Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen came to an anticlimactic end when 'The Boston Finisher' went down in the second round due to a knee injury. Allen emerged as the victor via TKO.
Orthopedic sports surgeon Dr. David Abbasi took to Twitter to dissect the exact nature of the injury. During a brief sequence in the closing minute of the first round, Kattar attempted what looked like a flying knee or switch-kick that missed the mark completely.
As a result, he landed awkwardly on his lead right leg and the pain was apparent in the American's immediate reaction.
Dr. David Abbasi suspected a complete ACL tear for Kattar, which he stated in a Twitter video:
"So after reviewing this injury play of Calvin Kattar's knee... look how he comes down landing in this dynamic valgus position here. His dynamic valgus positioning on the landing is very concerning for an ACL complete tear and see how he avoids putting weight on it afterwards."
Dynamic knee valgus is attributed to the movement pattern of the lower limb. Abbasi further added:
"Anytime I see somebody landing in the position and refusing to bear weight on it, it's an ACL tear unless proved otherwise to me. Now of course we can't confirm that without an MRI, but that will be taken on Calvin Kattar's knee. If he does have it, he will probably require surgery."

Alexander Volkanovski reacts to Calvin Kattar vs. Arnold Allen at UFC Vegas 63
UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski paid close attention to the UFC Vegas 63 main event clash between Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen.
The No.1-ranked pound-for-pound fighter was looking for either combatant to come out and deliver a standout performance.
