“This is just the beginning” - Adrian Lee promises to bigger showings after completely dismantling Nico Cornejo at ONE 168
Adrian Lee believes he's destined for bigger things in ONE Championship.
The youngest member of the famed Lee siblings recently captured his second professional win when he dominated hometown hero Nico Cornejo at ONE 168: Denver this past weekend at Ball Arena.
Lee was an offensive force in his lightweight MMA contest against Cornejo and was on a mission to secure the finish as early as possible.
He eventually got the submission win when he forced Cornejo to tap to a rear-naked choke 2:37 into the first round.
Taking to Instagram, Lee thanked his father Ken, and older brother Christian, the ONE lightweight and welterweight MMA world champion, for helping him prepare for his American debut.
Adrian Lee wrote:
"Thank you to my brother and my dad who helped me through every part of this camp and to all my friends, family, and fans who were watching and supporting around the world! Make sure to stick around cuz this is just the beginning!!!! 💪👊
Lee elevated his professional record to 2-0 when he completely dismantled Cornejo in their meeting in Denver this past Friday.
The 18-year-old never let Cornejo mount any offensive momentum during the fight and quickly took the fight to the ground where he methodically pieced up the Denver native.
Lee ultimately locked his right arm underneath Cornejo's chin to capture the submission win and a cool $50,000 bonus from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
Adrian Lee ready to step out of the shadow his world-champion siblings cast over him
Such is the way of being the youngest in the family, Adrian Lee will always be compared to his older siblings Angela and Christian Lee.
Angela is the inaugural ONE women's atomweight MMA world champion, while Christian currently holds the ONE lightweight and welterweight MMA world titles.
In an interview with Nick Atkin, Lee said he's ready to move out of his older siblings's shadow and create a legacy of his own doing.
"I think it's the legacy I'm chasing. After I'm done with my career. I plan to really stick around. I want to create a legacy for myself," he said following his win over Nico Cornejo.
