“This is the match I’ve wanted for so long” – Denice Zamboanga grateful that dream fight vs Stamp is finally happening
Denice Zamboanga has been waiting a long time for her first shot at ONE Championship gold. On Friday, June 7, she'll look to cash in on the opportunity to become the promotion's newest atomweight queen at ONE 167.
Throughout her run with the promotion, 'The Menace' has earned a slew of noteworthy wins against the division's top stars, including Jihin Radzuan, Mei Yamaguchi, Lin Heqin, and Julie Mezabarba. However, Zamboanga will face her toughest test yet when he steps inside the Circle for a world-title clash with reigning atomweight MMA titleholder Stamp Fairtex.
During an appearance on The Sheehan Show via Sherdog.com, Denice Zamboanga spoke about the importance of her upcoming opportunity, saying:
"This is the match that I’ve wanted for so long, and thankfully, yeah, it’s a world title shot."
Overall, Zamboanga is 10-2 in MMA with five of her wins coming under the ONE banner. That success has slid her into the No. 2 spot in the atomweight rankings and on the cusp of becoming a world champion for the first time in her career.
Stamp Fairtex seeks her first atomweight MMA title defense against Denice Zamboanga
As for Stamp Fairtex, the three-sport queen steps into the ONE 167 main event ready to defend her atomweight strap for the first time since scoring a sensational third-round body shot knockout against Ham Seo Hee at ONE Fight Night 14 in September.
The Thai superstar rides into Bangkok's Impact Arena with four straight wins in her pocket, besting the aforementioned Jihin Radzuan, Alyse Anderson, Anna 'Supergirl' Jaroonsak, and of course, Ham Seo Hee.
Will Stamp add another big win to her already impressive resume, or will Denice Zamboanga shock the world and land one of the biggest upsets in ONE Championship history?
ONE Championship fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 167 live and for free via Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime on Friday, June 7.
