Three-sport queen Stamp Fairtex eyes return to training in October, says rehab is going well: “I can do boxing now”
Reigning ONE atomweight MMA world champion Stamp Fairtex offered a timeline for her return to the gym after undergoing surgery in May. Originally, Stamp was scheduled to defend her atomweight crown at ONE 167 in Bangkok, but an injury forced her to bow out of the bout.
Not long after, the three-sport queen underwent a procedure to repair a torn meniscus.
Since then, she has been slowly working her way back and recently offered an update on when she'll get back to the gym while speaking with ONE Championship.
“I think I’ll return to Fairtex in late October," she said. "I’ll try some light training. I can do boxing now. I’ve been trying to keep myself busy with random stuff like mobile games and jigsaw puzzles. My parents take me out to eat often. I’ve just been spending time with my family."
As for when we'll see the Thai fan favorite back inside the Circle, it's simply too early to tell, but it's safe to say that both Stamp and her supporters are chomping at the bit to see her back in action ASAP.
Stamp Fairtex excited to see a couple of atomweight's finest go toe-to-toe in Denver
Until her return, Stamp is keeping a close eye on the atomweight division, including a high-stakes clash between Alyse Anderson and Victoria Souza slated for ONE 168: Denver this Friday night.
After coming up short against Stamp in her last outing at ONE Fight Night 10, Anderson will be looking to climb back into the win column and reassert herself as one of the division's top contenders. Meanwhile, Souza is trying to make it two in a row following her stunning first-round submission victory over Itsuki Hirata at ONE 167.
“I think it’ll be fun," Stamp said of Anderson vs. Souza. "Alyse is motivated because of the defeat, while Victoria is determined because she’s still a newer competitor. It’ll be an interesting matchup.”
ONE 168: Denver will air live on Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime in both the United States and Canada on Friday, Sept. 6. Follow this link for tickets to attend the event live at Ball Arena.
