“Time to crown me king” - Gustavo Balart says he’s destined for ONE Championship gold at ONE Fight Night 24
ONE Fight Night 24 could be the night Gustavo Balart reaches his dream.
Balart will face Jarred Brooks for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title in the card's main event on August 2, US primetime, at the historic Lumpinee Stadium.
Taking to Instagram, Balart said he's destined to capture the gold and go to a world title unification match against ONE strawweight MMA world champion Joshua Pacio.
Gustavo Balart wrote:
"Seeing all the obstacles I have had to overcome to get to this moment, I can only say that it has been an incredible journey. On August 2, the moment I have waited and desired for so long arrived. It is time to crown me king of my weight category. Let's go for everything, let's go for more, let's go for much more."
Balart represented Cuba in the 2012 London Summer Olympics but found his true calling in MMA.
Holding an impressive 12-4 professional record, 'El Gladiator' is in the best form of his career and is on a four-fight winning streak in ONE Championship.
Balart dealt with Ryuto Sawada, former ONE strawweight MMA world champions Yosuke Saruta and Alex Silva, and Hiroba Minowa on his way to his matchup against Brooks for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title.
ONE Fight Night 24 is available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Gustavo Balart plans a versatile approach against former champ Jarred Brooks
Gustavo Balart knows he can't just rely on his otherworldly wrestling when he faces Jarred Brooks on August 2 in Bangkok.
The third-ranked strawweight MMA contender said he has to employ a well-rounded offensive approach against the former ONE strawweight MMA world champion in the main event of ONE Fight Night 24.
In an interview with SerEbro EnlosDeportes, Balart said:
"For Brooks, I cannot just take to the floor and control this fight. I believe we will have a little bit of level changes, or blows in the fight. We will defend takedowns, and maybe, have a good striking [contest]."
