Tom Aspinall gives clarification after being misquoted about 'verbally agreeing' to fight Jon Jones

UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall was recently misquoted, with BT Sport suggesting that the 29-year-old had 'agreed verbally' to compete against current heavyweight king Jon Jones.

Aspinall took to the comments section to clarify that he had been misquoted and had agreed to fight another fighter. The British heavyweight added that sharing the octagon with Jones would be a dream come true:

"Lol... I have not verbally agreed to fight Jon Jones. I've agreed to fight somebody else. Jon Jones is obviously a dream fight in the future when I deserve it though," wrote Tom Aspinall.

Tom Aspinall's run in the UFC has been quite impressive. The 29-year-old secured victories in his first five fights in the multi-billion dollar promotion. This run included victories over Alexander Volkov, Serghei Spivac and Andrei Arlovski.

Aspinall was then matched up against Curtis Blaydes for the UFC London main event in July 2022. The night did not go well for the British fighter as he suffered a knee injury in the opening seconds of the fight that rendered him unable to compete.

Blaydes won the contest via TKO, handing Aspinall his first loss in the UFC.

Tom Aspinall recently made an appearance on Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour. During the interaction, the 29-year-old gave an update on his injury and shared what caused it:

"Feeling absolutely on top of the world, amazing, yeah, seriously. I didn't realize, I think, for a long time, I was kind of like lying to myself about the injury [a] little bit. The injury, when I fought Blaydes, that's when the knee completely gave up. Now the leg is fixed, and I have two legs to move around on, and I can really do things in the gym that I have literally not been able to since way before I was in the UFC."
