Tommy Fury officially enters WBC cruiserweight rankings with win over Jake Paul
Tommy Fury is officially a WBC-ranked cruiserweight boxer.
'TNT' returned to the boxing ring last month in Saudi Arabia on ESPN+ pay-per-view. On his return, the British prospect finally collided with his longtime rival Jake Paul. 'The Problem Child' had been scheduled to face Fury twice, but the latter withdrew twice.
These pullouts led to a lot of trash talk, which led to a lot of fan excitement. The WBC was also intrigued by the title, putting a ceremonial championship on the line. Along with that, they promised the winner of the cruiserweight fight a ranking inside the top 40.
On fight night, Tommy Fury got the last laugh as he outboxed Jake Paul. The Brit used his lengthy reach to box circles around the YouTuber. While Paul scored a knockdown in the final round, he was unable to get the Love Island star out of there.
'TNT' wound up earning the win by split decision, and the WBC has decided to stick to their word. Earlier today, the council finally ranked Fury, placing him as the 39th-best cruiserweight on the planet.
Funnily enough, Viddal Riley, known for his associations with KSI and YouTube boxing, was ranked 40th place. The 25-year-old has also teased a potential fight with Fury in the past, making his ranking very interesting.
Who will Tommy Fury fight next?
Tommy Fury's father and trainer, John Fury, has revealed that they're looking for a money fight next.
'TNT' began his boxing career with big dreams of one day joining his brother, Tyson Fury, as a potential champion. However, he's instead become more famous in the influencer boxing world than anything else.
The British prospect defeated Jake Paul last month in Saudi Arabia with 'The Problem Child' later stating his plans to activate the rematch clause. However, the YouTuber has since teased that he could fight Floyd Mayweather after an altercation with 'Money' in Miami earlier this month.
However, with that fight potential off the table, Tommy Fury still has other options. In a recent interview with Express Sport, John Fury stated that his son is interested in facing KSI, Salt Papi, or any influencer that could bring a big payday.
He revealed:
“Yep, we’re interested in KSI, he can have it next if he wants. We’re interested in the Salt Papi’s of the world, everybody with a name who thinks they can have a go, can have a go. Even with conventional boxing. If they want to pay the same sort of money as these guys are paying, we'll do the conventional boxing as well, but, after where we’ve been you can’t really box at York Hall, can you?”
