Tony Ferguson hilariously tries to capture "Pokemon" Khabib Nurmagomedov
Despite the bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov never materializing, having been booked and canceled five times, 'El Cucuy' has not stopped taking shots at 'The Eagle'.
Ferguson has, on a regular basis, taken jibes at Nurmagomedov, calling him a 'fathead' on many occasions.
In his latest jibe, Ferguson posted a hilarious video of himself catching Nurmagomedov with a 'Pokeball', a contraption used to catch creatures in the famous anime Pokemon.
In his usual 'El Cucuy' way of captioning, Tony Ferguson wrote::
"'Gotta catch 'em all'. Hey fathead, [you] done being a 'p*nani' yet?! What a maroon. [Double], thriple, quadruple mac. If 'Khabieber' was a Pokemon, which one would he be? [He'd] be [number] 'nyukmnyuknyuk' ofa atu crew."
Ferguson even tagged Khabib Nurmagomedov's longtime manager Ali Abdelaziz. 'The Eagle', as usual, has not responded. He's never taken Ferguson's jibes seriously. While acknowledging that Tony Ferguson is an excellent fighter, he also thinks that there's something seriously wrong with 'El Cucuy', even calling him a 'stupid guy'.
The bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov was one of the most highly anticipated in UFC history that never materialized. Much to the frustration of fans, the fight was booked on five occasions, and each time, something happened that led to either Ferguson or Nurmagomedov pulling out.
The different paths of Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov
At one point, it seemed like Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were on a collision course in what would have been perhaps the greatest lightweight showdown in UFC history.
The last time their fight was booked was at UFC 249 in 2020. On that occasion, 'The Eagle' couldn't make it to the fight due to travel restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Justin Gaethje was then booked as a replacement for Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the fight was contested for the interim lightweight title. Gaethje got the better of the striking exchanges and secured a TKO finish in the fifth round.
With the win, 'The Highlight' secured a title unification bout with 'The Eagle' at UFC 254.
The last time Ferguson and Nurmagomedov faced off:
The Gaethje vs. Ferguson bout marked the end of any possible bout being booked between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. It also marked the start of Ferguson's downward trajectory in MMA.
While 'The Eagle' continued to stake his claim as the greatest lightweight of all time by retiring with a 29-0 record, 'El Cucuy' went on a five-fight losing skid, being knocked out by Michael Chandler and submitted by Nate Diaz in his most recent two fights.
Many have wondered what kind of a fight a prime Ferguson could have given Nurmagomedov had they fought. Now, they will never know.
